DO OR DIE - CANUCKS GAME 7

Not since 1994 has the prospect of a citywide riot been more likely... I, among legions of other Canucks faithful, will be at the game decked out in Canucks garb right down to my underwear!

Now I don't want to worry anyone unnecessarily, but there is a chance the Canucks may lose and in doing so become a new benchmark in playoff futility. The best team in the league by a country mile and winners of their first three contests versus the depleted defending Stanley Cup champions. Now it's a 1 game series... A Superbowl-type atmosphere is expected in the comfortable confines of Rogers Arena and ohhh how we will cheer our boys on! But in the same breath ohhh how we will worry if we don't score first...

The fragile psyche of Canucks fans is well documented and I, admittedly, am among the more fragile... After the Shithawks made it 3-0 in game 5 I angrily changed the channel and happily watched Slumdog Millionaire. A great movie about a poor, luckless boy who gets his shot at fame and fortune only to be disbelieved and has to set out on a long journey to convince the powers that be that he deserves his prize. Now if his journey was 40 years long we'd draw even stronger similarities to our current debacle... When I checked the score on my iPhone some time later to see 5-0 I knew I had the right choice!

What do our boys need to do to win you ask?

1. Score first: When the Shithawks score first the second generally comes in quick fashion
2. Intimidate: Game 6 saw the return of the Canucks forecheck, chip the puck behind their defenseman and PUNISH those little bastards! Can someone please get close enough to Duncan Keith to 2 hand his arms and/or legs?? I'll take you out for a nice steak dinner
3. Collapse in front of our net: Rumour has it Luongo will get the start Tuesday and the best goalie on the planet should get his chance... BUT if he let's in another 30+ foot Hossa wrister Alain has to grow a pair and yank him like he's starting a mower! If he stays in please, please collapse back to the dirty area, he is going to give up rebounds. Chicago is in his kitchen... Fuck they built it
4. Contain their stars: Let Smith, Johnson, whoever take as many shots as they want, hell they can score 1 or 2 too, but if Kane, Toews, Keith, Hossa or Sharp get going Lou will be jumpier than a meth addict in church...
5. FINISH: There is a laundry list of 40 goal scorers who have been shutout in playoff series and it isn't pretty... See Semin last year... Kesler needs to pot 1! I understand he's been made Toews shadow since Game 3, but the fact remains he has matched up against the other teams top line all year AND potted 41... Step up Kes your "paycut" is only going to keep you in Vancouverites' good graces only so long, I mean you know you're American right?

My prediction: The Canucks will win 4-2 with an empty-netter, beer sales will be strong and the buildings along Robson will remain intact... For now

Exclusive - Rick Rypien out partying in the Lower Mainland

  • Rick Rypien, the son of Golden Gloves boxer Wes Rypien, was spotted out January 11, 2011 partying like the proverbial rockstar at Baseline's Pub in Langley!  Sources say he started a tab and paid for everything and they stayed at the pub drinking and carousing well after the establishment closed.  While I have been guilty a time or two having fun when I've called in sick to work, I, as a supremely loyal and avid Canucks fan, would like to see our mobile, rarely disputed pound-for-pound best fighter in the NHL back on skates...  Take your time Rick (I guess), by all accounts you're a good man...
  • Roberto Luongo, fresh off his All-Star snub, takes sole possession of the Canucks all-time wins without a regulation loss streak record at 11 games.  A mere week after Cory Schneider, he of the incredible unbeaten season, tied the record, he now he stands alone atop the Canucks goalie hierarchy... Verrrrry niiiiiice...
  • Our boys keep rolling along and have taken a strangle hold on first place in the league with a 3 point lead over Philly and Detroit with a game in hand over the latter.  We also enjoy a 12 point cushion over Colorado for first in the Northwest Division which all but ensures us of finishing no worse than 3rd in the Western Conference.  aka the Canucks are winning and doing it in a myriad of different ways: come from behind, dominating, battling, in cruise control, seemingly effortlessly...  let's just hope they can tighten up for the playoffs and the man-to-man match ups that dominate each series.  Something tells me Raffi Torres isn't going to get bounced around as much as Kyle Wellwood (who just might be a St. Louis Blue by that time) and Manny Malholtra will have the edge on intimidation over nice guy Ryan Johnson (who we may meet this summer wearing the hideous Blackhawks red)

Let's plan the Stanley Cup parade route now!!

  • Cory Schneider will attempt to join the Canucks record books along with the likes of Kirk McLean, Dan Cloutier, Cesare Maniago and Richard Brodeur if he can pull away another victory tonight and start the season with 10 straight games and no regulation losses.  Gingers everywhere rejoice because you have a new role model!
  • The bigger question is how much better will Roberto Luongo be if he can continue to get days off without stress, if he can continue to shirk small, unimportant duties like skating around after a first star selection, if he can continue to give the media 2 minutes after games instead of 20...  That remains to be seen, but my thought is he'll excel in the playoffs even though just yesterday he admitted he "can't honestly say he felt tired in the playoffs the previous years."  Well you looked it...
  • Our Canucks take on the Oilers in 2 hours, stay tuned for the postgame celebration...  Yes folks these Oilers suck and, without their best player Ryan Whitney, they will lose... Mourn them if you'd like

Canucks rumoured to be interested in Iginla - posted by Scott Allan

Where did I hear this rumour you may ask? Well... I started it! But beside that fact it's safe to say ALL teams have an interest in Iginla. As a matter of fact I ran a possible trade scenario by my brother, a transplanted Calgarian who has jumped on the Flames bandwagon after departing the Metro Vancouver area(disgusting I agree), Burrows, Raymond and Bieksa for Iggy! Talk amongst yourselves...
